San Pedro de Atacama
The village of San Pedro de Atacama lies on the northern edge of the
Atacama salt flats along the banks of the San Pedro river at 2440
m (8000 ft) above sea level. The village population is
just under 1000. The village economy is based on agriculture, services for
nearby sulphur and salt mines, and tourism.
