Summer Position at NRAO for Spanish speaking High School/Middle School Teacher

NRAO is recruiting applicants for a summer position working with high school students on an English to Spanish translation project.  We seek a high school/middle school teacher who is fluent in Spanish to work with a translation team made up of bilingual high school students, an NRAO scientist and an education/outreach specialist. The teacher will be paid a summer salary for work done before, during and after an intensive six week program for the high school students. The team will work on translating web pages which contain information on astronomy for the general public into Spanish. No prior computing or astronomy experience is necessary although a willingness to learn computing skills and an interest in learning more about astronomy are essential.  NRAO is interested in developing and maintaining programs with the local community, therefore a teacher who lives and works in Socorro, with ties to the hispanic community would be a plus. The teacher will have responsibility for proofreading the final written Spanish, supervising 5-6 high school students in translation work and assisting the scientist and education/outreach specialist in developing  long-term outreach in Socorro. A grammatical understanding of Spanish will be useful, since the students may benefit from some instruction in grammar. Possibilities exist for travel to a meeting to present work from the summer project.  Questions can been addressed to Kristy Dyer 505-835-7372, email: kdyer@nrao.edu.

To apply please send a letter of application (email OK) with three references to:
